Michelin Tyres Are Designed To Win
Motorsport is our innovation lab for a better life in motion
We simulate, we design, we race, we learn to make better tyres and sustainable solutions for our champions on the track and for you on the road, everyday and whatever your vehicle.
Over the last 50 years, we are the tyre manufacturer with the most victories(1) in the major championships sanctioned by the FIA (Fédération Internationale Automobile) and FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) (2).
IN MOTOGPᵀᴹ , MORE THAN 480 RACE WINS SINCE 1973
In 2022 Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) succeeded to the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) to claim the MotoGPTM world title. In doing so, he earned Michelin’s 33rd crown in motorcycle racing class and emerged as the 17th different rider to secure the title on the French firm’s tyres.
Since the first win in 1973 (with Jack Findley, Suzuki) and the first title in 1976 (with Barry Sheene, Suzuki), we are proud to count more than 480 race wins. Those results were achievable thanks to continual development through the years, from the beginning of slick tyres in 1973, revolutionnary radial tyres in 1984 to the more recent bi-compound tyre in 2008.
MOTOGP RIDERS TRUST MICHELIN TYRES
« The Michelin technician – is part of the crew inside, inside the garage, because we work together and we try to understand what is the best. » Miguel Oliveira
« Yeah well, for sure, trusting in, in a tyres I think is maybe 90 per cent of, of our job of riding, because tyres are so important. Also, you need to understand a lot the tyre, no? You need to, to know how it works – also every compound, it depends if it’s soft, medium, you have to understand really fast and for sure trust in it to, to be fast and it’s one of the most important things. » Jorge Martin
« A lot of confidence with these tyres and I think that, since we have been with Michelin for a long time, we have always had this confidence but on this circuit, it is true that I had more. » Fabio Quartararo
« In general, the biggest thing out of all the changes that you can make is if you change the tire or the compound, it can make a world of difference, so I would say that the main thing is tires at the end of the day. That’s where your performance is. » Brad Binder
« Everything rotate around the tires, so when you have a good choice, you can feel better and I’m a type of rider that predilect the front feeling, so when I have a good front feeling, I always go better – more smooth, more fast. » Francesco Bagnaia
« I really like to spend time with the Michelin engineers. … if you can understand well how the tires are working, also when are you on the bike, you can feel better, understand better how the tires is » Luca Marini
