Bmw R1200RT

HVM2012 - March 4, 2020

I have BMW R1200RT & my bike even though its 2011 it come with road 4 GT (EX SA Police bike) We all go on about road safety these days but it all talk no action, Why aren't these tyres standard equipment on all types of motorcycles & scooters???????????????? There would be a lot less motorcyclist die on the roads world wide due to tyre superiority. 10 out of 10 Michelin.

Best Tire for a BMW RT

Rtcoker - November 4, 2019

After putting over 175,000 miles on two different BMW RT's I have run the gamut of various tires. Usually with other brands I was lucky to get much more than 3,000 miles out of a set. The other "M" brand was a good rain/sport/touring tire, but wore out quickly. I switched to Michelin Pilot Roads with the 2, then the 3, and got similar experience, but better traction and more even wear without the "shouldering" at the junction of the hard and soft zones, like other tires created. Finally the 4's came out and i am consistently getting over 8,000 miles from a set. Often i have changed them out during mid trip, at 9,000 with plenty of life left, but had to honor the scheduled appointment for the change. I use the GT's. Much better than the standard 4's BTW. Can't wait to see when the 5's come out with the GT to test them out. But for now, i won't use any other tire. FWIW I have plugged two different rear tires mid trip and the plug held fine, for another 2,000 and 3,200 miles (respectively) over a few weeks to complete a trip. That's quite a statement in and of its own. Also, they are almost always perfectly balanced. Hardly ever have to change weights (which balance a wheel, not the tire) the tires never vibrate, even well above 125 MPH. Handling and great leaning angles and no slipping or sliding under trail braking during a lean. Living in the Smokies, i ride a lot of great mountain roads, like the Dragon and these perform almost as great as a track tire, but also get me back home after those mountain thunderstorms. Great tires!
