GOOD NEWS

Michelin sustainabilty improves the quality of your life in motion.

By creating more enjoyable, reliable, sustainable products and services Michelin improves the quality of your life in motion.
Every year, Michelin invests nearly $760 millions on R&D. Innovation is one of the pillars of the Michelin Brand.

RECYCLING

Introducing an innovative process for reusing polystyrene waste and creating more sustainable Michelin products, developed by our partners at Pyrowave.

The process uses microwaves to break down discarded yogurt cups, food containers, and other plastic packaging to recover their original building block: styrene.

This recovered styrene is then used to make new packaging and products for the automotive, home appliance and tire industries. For example, styrene is a key component in the synthetic rubbers used to make tires.
With this technology, the equivalent of 80,000 tons* of polystyrene waste could be recycled into MICHELIN® tires each year.

Good News - Uptis

UPTIS

The MICHELIN UPTIS (Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System) is a revolutionary new airless mobility solution for passenger vehicles.

It eliminates the risk of flat tires and other air loss failures resulting from punctures or road hazards.

Thanks to Michelin's expertise in high-tech materials, UPTIS tires are a significant leap forward in airless mobility technology. UPTIS tires eliminate the need for air pressure checks, making them ideal for self-driving vehicles and passenger car fleets.

The UPTIS tire's revolutionary design and materials will yield sustainability benefits such as reducing the number of tires destined for scrap, and reducing overall raw materials and energy used in tire production.

*In-house “scrapyard” survey (2012-2015) based on a sample of 135,000 tires and extrapolated on a global scale (estimates indicate that one billion end-of-life tires are discarded each year).

GREEN STAR

The MICHELIN Green Star is an annual award recognizing restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to sustainable practices.

Recipients hold themselves to exceptionally high ethical and environmental standards, and even though each restaurant works in its own way, each implements a wide range of green initiatives.

These include working with sustainable producers and suppliers, avoiding waste, reducing or even removing plastic and other non-recyclable materials from their supply chain, or many other responsible practices.

Recipients offer dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments, and are a source of inspiration both for avid foodies and the hospitality industry as a whole.

Good News - Acoustic

ACOUSTIC

MICHELIN Acoustic Technology significantly reduces interior noise. It effectively reduces vibrations caused by the road resulting in a significant reduction of interior noise.
A custom designed polyurethane foam solution muffles noise resonance which allows the drivers and passengers to benefit fully from hands-free communication devices while lessening driver fatigue on long drives. It even dampens interior noise when driving on changing road conditions.

*Internal noise measurement, done in 2016 on size 245/45 R19 on KIA Cadenza. Noise level measured in the range "170-230Hz". Results may vary according to vehicle, tyre range and size, speed and road conditions.

LIFE RISK

MICHELIN equips all sorts of civil security vehicles that are deployed on the three main risk theaters: Urban disasters like fire or flood, emergency person rescue and forest fire.
In the Mediterranean region, where a lot of countries are victims of forest fire, or in Australia, MICHELIN® tires are chosen by emergency teams to equip their wide range of vehicles, as they cover all needs and provide maximum security, necessary in these life risk situations.
When deployed on a forest fire theater, safe and tough tires are necessary. Tires must not burst as the vehicle is surrounded by flames. The puncture risk also comes from burnt stumps that are so hard and sharp in that context that they can pierce through anything. Firemen cannot afford being stopped when they need to get as close as possible to the fire, as it would put their life at even more risk.
