MICHELIN Green Tires
15.06.2010
More than 10 billion liters of fuel have been saved and more than 25 million metric tons of CO2 emissions have been avoided thanks to MICHELIN’s green tires, marketed since 1992.
The 600 million MICHELIN green tires sold worldwide over the past 16 years have saved 43.9 liters of fuel each second, corresponding to 109.14 kg of CO2 kept out of the atmosphere.
This is a crucial challenge at a time when skyrocketing oil prices are impacting the entire global economy and reducing consumer purchasing power. With its green tire, Michelin is actively helping to reduce the cost and environmental impact of road transportation, as tires use up one full tank out of five in automobiles and one full tank out of three in trucks.
Michelin’s goal here is to design tires that help to reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the same high performance in the areas of safety and tread life.
An assertive commitment to preserving the environment and energy resources has guided Michelin throughout its history. In the past 16 years, Michelin has developed no fewer than four generations of green tires. The latest addition, MICHELIN Energy Saver, substantially reduces fuel consumption once again and improves environmental performance while ensuring complete safety and the longest mileage in the market.
Launched October 30th, 2007 in 4 large cities (Berlin, New York, Paris and Shanghai), the Michelin Green Meter totals fuel savings and CO2 emission reductions cumulated thanks to MICHELIN green tires since 1992, when the first Energy ranges were launched. Michelin installed 12 Michelin Green Meters in its sites in France, in Germany, in Italy, in Spain and in the United States.
